Manortown faced Donnycarney in the LFL Under19 League today in the 5Acres. The game started at 100mph with Manortown carving out several good chances in the first 15 minutes, with Sean Foran and Tom Browne leading the attack, however we conceded a goal in the first half and ended up 1-0 down.
But this didn’t knock the team and some good saves from Eoin Glennon and some fabulous composed defensive work from the back four, it was back to Manortown pushing on and the breakthrough finally came from a second half substitution. Liam Hiney, who drifted to the back of a set piece with the ball coming over everyone, Liam took a brilliant first touch and with power and precision, clipped the inside of the post as he found the back of the net. With ten minutes remaining, Manortown had the bit between the teeth, shots cleared off the line and whizzing by the frame of the goal, it was looking unlikely for a win until Luke Doyle took on two players, zig zagged his way to the end line and fired in a low cross, which found James Cahill who rolled his body, firing by the keeper who could only get fingertips to it, as the ref blew the full time whistle.
A brilliant 2-1 result for our U19’s team and a great way to show off our new kit, which was kindly sponsored by Multi-Pneumatics Limited.
