Saturday saw our U10’s play in the Michael Horgan Cup, a tournament in memory of young Michael Horgan, who passed away last October. Michael joined the Manortown Academy at aged 4 years and spent the following three years training with them.
So on Saturday, all his friends from Manortown, along with teams from Rosemount Mulvey FC, Knocklyn FC, Firhouse Carmel FC, Greenhills FC and Beechwood FC took part in the inaugural Michael Horgan Cup. It was a memorable day, with plenty of goals, lots of excitement, new friendships created, and bonds between clubs made stronger all in the name of the forever-young Michael Horgan. Beechwood deservedly won the tournament, having beaten Knocklyon in a gripping final.
Conor and Anne Horgan, parents of Michael, presented the trophies to the winners and runners-up, with Conor making a poignant speech on the day.
Thank you to Bob’s Pizza’s who provided the food and drinks and thank you to all the volunteers and participants who made this tournament an unforgettable one.
